Cloud Applications and Security Engineering (M. Sc.)

Application period for the 2027 summer semester: 3 November 2026 to 15 January 2027

Direct access to German-speaking online presentation on November 17h, 6pm CEST, here

With this Master's programme, you will specialise in the design and implementation of modern software concepts with reference to relevant and practical application areas. The goal of the programme is to teach core competencies for cloud-based and secure application development with common methods and tools. This includes, for example, topics from the areas of virtualization, orchestration, cloud computing, continuous integration and delivery to questions regarding secure modern software architectures and networks as well as topics in the context of computer forensics.

In addition to the focus on cloud and security, this degree program offers you individual elective options: decide for yourself in which field you would like further specialise. With this Master's programme at THI, you are ready for successful career advancement in the context of modern software systems - whether in industry or in the scientific field, e.g. via a doctorate.

Please note: The programme is taught in German.

Contents

This master's programme builds on a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related degree with corresponding content in practical and applied computer science. It is aimed at applicants who want to acquire in-depth knowledge and competencies in the development and operation of secure cloud-based application solutions. This includes a deepening of competencies in the topics of software engineering for enterprise applications and distributed data storage and processing as well as development, operation and deployment of applications in cloud infrastructures as well as methods and strategies for the development and operation of secure IT infrastructures and applications.

In the area of security, the programme includes typical attack scenarios on computer networks, relevant protective measures, as well as design principles of secure IT systems and theoretical principles of computer forensics. In the area of cloud applications, it focuses on the design of complex and distributed software architectures, the creation of well-structured software designs, as well as the secure use of modern virtualization techniques and container solutions, up to current orchestration systems and tools for continuous integration and delivery.

A special feature are the subject-specific elective modules, which can be selected in particular from the Master's program in Business Information Systems Engineering and enable you to build up competence in further highly topical subject areas. The practice-oriented, subject-specific modules of the programme, in which you gain experience with modern systems and tools, are rounded off by a project that you will usually carry out with corporate partners.

FAQs

What prerequisites should I have for this master's programme?

The Master's programme Cloud Applications and Security Engineering deepens the Bachelor's program in Computer Science offered at THI. However, it is generally aimed at graduates of a bachelor's degree in computer science or related courses who have acquired basic knowledge of practical computer science in the areas of operating systems, computer networks, database systems / data management, programming languages, software engineering and IT security in their previous studies.

What is special about this Master's program?

You will gain in-depth insight into current enterprise architectures directly related to cloud computing combined with topics from IT security, modern networks and computer forensics. With the continuing trend towards moving applications to the cloud, it is imperative that engineers not only know how to use tools to implement applications. Especially in the context of the highly distributed nature of these systems and the operation at public cloud providers, the knowledge of how to implement secure applications is deepened.

Another special feature is the proportion of selectable modules. This allows you to take modules from the "neighbouring" Master's programme Business Information Systems Engineering. This allows you to combine the contents of both Master's programmes and specifically integrate competencies in one or both of the core topics of this program into your master's studies, whereby the focus of your studies naturally lies on the topics of cloud applications and security engineering.
