Exciting Field Trip to the Waste-to-Energy Plant with Students in Sustainability and Environmental Management

As part of the “Waste Management” lecture series in the Circular Economy module, sixth-semester students in the Sustainability and Environmental Management program visited the MVA waste-to-energy plant in Ingolstadt and the Ingolstadt Central Wastewater Treatment Plant (ZKA).

Together with program director Prof. Dr. Holger Hoppe, the students gained practical insight into the thermal treatment of household and commercial waste. During the tour of the thermal waste treatment plant, they were able to take a look inside the waste bunker, learn about flue gas cleaning, and discover what items are recovered during the removal of non-ferrous metals.

During the tour of the Ingolstadt Central Wastewater Treatment Plant (ZKA), the students followed the wastewater treatment process step by step. They learned how electricity is generated from sewage gas in a combined heat and power plant and the importance of the biological treatment stages.
