After more than 20 years of loyal service, our old SEM has been replaced by a modern high-end device - a real milestone for our research in the field of materials technology.
The new scanning electron microscope enables:
- High-resolution images
- Precise determination of the local chemical composition
- Detailed crystallographic information
This means that materials and surfaces can now be analysed even more precisely - a huge benefit for our research and teaching.
Areas of application:
- 90% research in the field of materials technology
- 10% teaching - especially in the Materials Engineering & Resource Efficient Engineering degree programmes
Users:
Professors from the Faculties of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, including Prof Waltz, Prof Kerschenlohr, Prof Oberhauser, Prof Tetzlaff, Prof Landesberger, Prof Tröber and Prof Diel.
The "Assembly and Connection Technology" (Prof. Elger) and Charisma (Prof. Schweiger, Prof. Polzer) working groups also benefit from the new analytics.
What makes the REM special:
There is no comparable and at the same time so accessible equipment within a radius of around 70km. In combination with other high-end laboratory equipment, the SEM delivers high-precision, meaningful results - and thus strengthens the regional research landscape in the long term.
We look forward to many new insights, exciting projects and the opportunity to introduce our students to state-of-the-art analytical technology in an even more practical way.
