Global Economics and Business Management (B. A.)

The module provides fundamental concepts and interrelationships in business administration. It covers corporate objectives, core and cross-functional business areas, organizational structures, and business processes. Students learn to systematically analyze practice-oriented issues in areas such as marketing, finance, and human resource management.

The module introduces key concepts of microeconomics. Topics covered include supply and demand, market structures, elasticities, market equilibrium, and welfare economic analysis. In addition, government intervention, market failure, and fundamental issues of economic policy are discussed.

The module provides mathematical and statistical foundations for applications in economics and business studies. Topics include interest, annuity, and present value calculations, descriptive statistics, data analysis, and basic regression models. The aim is to develop confidence in applying quantitative methods to analyze economic issues.

The module covers the fundamentals of external and internal accounting. Topics include financial statements, bookkeeping, balance sheet analysis and cost and performance accounting. The curriculum covers cost-element, cost-center and cost-object accounting as well as full-cost and partial-cost accounting and the calculation of operating results as a basis for decision-making.

The International Management module focuses on global economic developments and international business strategies. Topics include globalization trends, theories of trade and capital flows, organizational structures of multinational companies, and fundamentals of intercultural management.

In the Foreign Language 1 module (French, Spanish, or Chinese), students acquire basic language skills for simple communication. They develop a basic vocabulary covering topics such as people, daily life, academic studies, and professional contexts, and learn fundamental structures for communication. They are able to understand and use simple phrases and engage in brief oral and written exchanges.

This module deepens statistical methods for data description and analysis. It covers probability theory, random variables and distributions, parameter estimation, hypothesis testing, as well as time series and regression analysis. Students apply methods to real datasets using the statistical software R and interpret empirical studies.

The Business English module develops professional communication skills for international business contexts. It focuses on presentation and negotiation skills and selected business topics, using case studies, group work, and role plays to enhance practical language competence.

The module focuses on key macroeconomic concepts such as GDP, economic growth, inflation, and unemployment. Further topics include the financial system, money and inflation, as well as international aspects like balance of payments and exchange rate systems. Business cycles and stabilization policies are also analyzed.

The module covers the technological fundamentals of digital business, business processes and application systems as well as the basics of IT organization. Other key areas include digital business models, artificial intelligence, and IT management. Students deepen their understanding of the material through hands-on experience configuring and using an ERP system (SAP S/4HANA).

The module focuses on operations and supply chain management. It covers planning decisions at the strategic, tactical and operational levels, forecasting methods and their quality as well as quality management concepts. Real-world case studies illustrate forecasting, quality assurance and control methods.

The Foreign Language 2 module (French, Spanish, or Chinese) builds on knowledge from Foreign Language 1. It introduces students to typical forms of communication, such as simple emails, conversations and scheduling appointments. Students expand their vocabulary related to daily life, academics, and the professional world, and learn to express themselves appropriately in the language. They can write short texts and exchange information clearly.

The module provides the fundamentals of academic research and writing. Topics include empirical research methods such as expert interviews and data analysis, literature research, citation techniques, the structure of academic papers, as well as the formulation and presentation of scientific findings.

This module covers fundamentals of human resource management and organization. Topics include recruiting, labor law, HR controlling, leadership, motivation, compensation and national as well as international HR management.

This module covers strategic and operational aspects of marketing and sales. Topics include market research, segmentation, positioning, and product, pricing, communication, and distribution strategies. Students learn to develop and apply marketing and sales concepts in competitive markets.

This module focuses on financial decision-making processes. Topics include financial mathematics, investment appraisal methods, capital structure, forms of financing, key performance indicators (KPIs), as well as international financial topics such as currency and country risks and sustainable investments.

The Personal Development module helps students become more aware of their personalities and further develop them. The focus is on self-reflection, values, resilience, mindfulness, and dealing constructively with challenges and change. The goal is to identify personal resources, reflect on opportunities for growth, and shape one’s own future prospects.

The Foreign Language 3 module (French, Spanish, or Chinese) promotes increasingly independent language use, including in business-related contexts. The course covers presentations, expressing opinions as well as formal and informal communication in simple professional settings. Students expand their business vocabulary, learn simple argumentation techniques and develop oral and written communication skills.

The module covers corporate social responsibility and sustainability management in a global context. Topics include sustainable business models, stakeholder approaches, reporting, ethical issues and practical case studies.

The module addresses current micro- and macroeconomic issues. Topics include inflation and unemployment, the effects of supply-side policy measures, the global economic outlook, multinational enterprises, as well as inequality and poverty.

This module covers fundamentals of strategic management. Topics include competitive strategies, market and company analysis, and the development and implementation of long-term strategies.

In this project module, students work on practice-oriented tasks. They apply subject knowledge and methods, work in teams and present structured results.

Students complete their practical semester at a company, association, or organization in a non-German-speaking country. During this time, they acquire competencies and specialist knowledge that enable them to quickly take on business or economics-related tasks and successfully transition into professional life. By completing the internship abroad, students also develop and strengthen their intercultural competencies in a practical context.

The bachelor’s thesis addresses a practical or theoretical research question in an international context. Students apply scientific methods, analyze complex problems, and present their results in a structured academic paper in English.

Within this module, students independently prepare business and economic issues in order to present them convincingly in a professional discussion. They reflect on content from core areas of business and economics and also relate it to current economic developments reported in the daily press.

The elective modules allow students to set individual priorities. They provide in-depth knowledge in business administration topics (FW), address responsible and sustainable management (NW), or strengthen communication, teamwork, and intercultural skills (SW). The content ranges from management and economic topics to sustainability and broader societal issues in an international context.

This module focuses on data-driven decision support. Students learn to analyze, process and interpret data to support business decisions.

In a computer-based business simulation, students take on management roles. They make strategic decisions along a global value chain and analyze their effects on markets, production, and financial performance.
