Excursion to the Augsburg Environmental Education Center: Experiencing Sustainable Building with Clay

The excursion featured a diverse and informative program. It began with a presentation by the client's representative and building user, who introduced the project's background, objectives, and functional requirements. This was followed by a guided tour of the Environmental Education Center, where participants explored the completed building and gained first-hand experience of its architectural and structural features.

Another highlight of the excursion was the presentation by the designers and builders responsible for the clay walls from LEHM TON ERDE. Their talk illustrated the technical and architectural potential of clay construction while also addressing the challenges associated with planning and execution. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of open and effective communication among all project stakeholders, including the client, designers, and contractors.

The event was widely regarded as both highly informative and inspiring. The combination of expert presentations, practical examples, and the guided building tour provided participants with valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges of sustainable clay construction.

A total of 26 participants attended the excursion, including students from the SCE, ARC, and NB study programs, as well as Professors Pichlmeier, Bergmann and Blask.
