Scholarship programmes of the THI

Scholarships are part of the promotion of gifted people and are therefore often awarded on the basis of very good to good performance and social commitment. The THI offers its students advice and support with their applications for both internal and external programmes.

Good to know:

Start early: Most funding opportunities are available to you especially at the beginning of your studies (for bachelor’s programs, usually in the 1st–3rd semesters; for master’s programs, ideally before starting your studies or in the first semester).
Keep an eye on deadlines: Make sure to check the application periods well in advance—these vary by foundation, as do the requirements.
Check your documents: Make sure your application is complete before you submit it.

Internal scholarship programmes

Deutschlandstipendium

The Deutschlandstipendium supports high-performing students with up to 300 euros per month.

Talent Promotion of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research

The scholarship foundations are supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and provide funding to particularly high-achieving and dedicated students.

Please also keep in mind following key points:

Most scholarships are awarded based on academic performance and social engagement
Financial difficulties are usually not considered
Application options are mostly only after enrolment
To receive a scholarship, in most cases you have to be entitled to BAföG. (Note: Please do not confuse BAföG eligibility with actually receiving BAföG.) However, this is not a prerequisite; it merely influences the amount of funding.
A certain level of German language skills (at least B2) is required for many scholarships
Information is mostly given in German only
